Montefiore Medical Center has a four-part mission: Patient Care Teaching Research Community Service Teaching; Hand in hand with Montefiore's responsibility for patient care is a concomitant mission to produce superbly trained physicians and other health professionals. Montefiore is the University Hospital and Academic Medical Center for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and serves as the principal clinical base for large programs of undergraduate and graduate medical education, which train medical students, residents and fellows in all specialties.Research : Montefiore is committed to the generation of new knowledge through medical research. Our physicians and scientists have contributed important advances in cardiology, oncology, organ transplantation, lead poisoning, AIDS and other areas. They push forward medical frontiers and bring to patient care and physician training the benefits of the latest scientific knowledge and state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Community Service:Montefiore recognizes a special responsibility to improve the health and welfare of its home community, the Bronx. We have a long history of reaching out beyond the medical center's walls to identify unmet community needs and developing programs and services to address them. Our long-term commitment was recognized by the Association of American Medical Colleges in 1996 when it chose Montefiore to receive one of its highest honors, the Outstanding Community Service Award.
